The kickoff topic for this Network of Fire Science Champions call was Fire and Bark Beetle Research: A Discussion of Manager Information Needs. Presenters were Brian Harvey, Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Colorado-Boulder and Russ Parsons, Research Ecologist, USFS Rocky Mountain Research Station. Russ and Brian reviewed the latest research related to bark beetles, fuels, fire behavior, and fire effects. They then helped faciliate a discussion about how current fire and bark beetle research is or isn’t useful to managers in the region and solicited feedback on where there’s still confusion about how to apply this research.

The kickoff topic and discussion were followed by a round robin where participants had the opportunity to discuss other current management dilemmas and share resources.
