The U.S. Geological Survey and The Nature Conservancy – LANDFIRE and Apex Resource Management Solutions are hosting a second State-and-Transition Simulation Modeling (STSM) Conference.
Following in the footsteps of the inaugural 2011 STSM conference, this conference will once again bring together users of landscape STSM tools - including ST-Sim and its predecessors (VDDT, TELSA and Path Landscape Model) - to provide opportunities for sharing experiences with different applications of the STSM approach. The event includes an optional one-day training session on the use of ST-Sim, followed by two days of talks by scientists and managers from across North America with a keynote address by Dr. Tom Loveland, director of the USGS Land Cover Institute.
Topics include modeling of:
- land use/land cover change
- forest and rangeland management
- wetlands management
- fuels planning
- ecological restoration and reclamation
- invasive plant management
- wildlife habitat management
- climate change and carbon modeling
Jim Smith, TNC-LANDFIRE Program Manager, and Colin Daniel, University of Toronto and Apex Resource Management Solutions Ltd. will offer a presentation followed by a discussion on the future of state-and-transition simulation modeling tools. Kori Blankenship, TNC-LANDFIRE Fire Ecologist, will present Simulating the Historical Range of Variability in Fire-adapted Ecosystems. Also, TNC-Nevada Director of Science Louis Provencher offers a report, Using Landscape Conservation Forecasting with Federally Listed Species in Southwest Utah.
