The Joint Fire Science Program (JFSP) knowledge exchange consortia vision is to be a national network that accelerates awareness, understanding, and adoption of wildland fire science information by federal, tribal, state, local, and private stakeholders within ecologically similar regions.

The JFSP regional consortia are guided by the following principles:
to be inclusive, neutral science partners, end-user driven, collaborative, innovative, and overall to facilitate the flow of fire science information.

There are now fourteen regional consortia, including eight established consortia and six new consortia. The NRFSN is one of the new consortia.
