Traditional Knowledge and Fire Workshop

RETURNING FIRE TO THE LAND
Celebrating Traditional Knowledge and Fire

November 7-9, 2012
Pablo, Montana

TK workshop posterThe Northern Rockies Fire Science Network, Salish Kootenai College, University of Idaho, and Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes are pleased to announce a workshop aimed at integrating traditional knowledge and scientific ecological knowledge into fire management. We welcome managers, researchers, and students who have experience or interest in working collaboratively on fire management issues across tribal and non-tribal jurisdictions.

Building on the understanding of why and how fire was used on the land, the workshop will explore challenges and solutions to incorporating traditional knowledge and scientific ecological knowledge into fire management in the Northern Rockies region of Idaho, Montana, Washington, and Wyoming. Fire management includes using fire (planned and unplanned ignitions) as a tool to perpetuate important landscapes that support natural and cultural resources.
