The new National Climate Assessment (NCA) summarizes present day and future impacts of climate change on the United States. Observations are showing changes in temperature and precipitation patterns causing societal impacts outside of recent experience. Wildland fire examples include

  • Lengthening fire season
  • More extreme fire danger
  • Increase in disturbances (e.g.. insect-induced tree mortality, invasive species)

Projections of future climate indicate a continued increasing trend of weather/climate extremes and impacts. While climate acts as an enabler, future fire will also be an outcome of political and societal resolve.

This webinar will provide an overview of the process and results for the new NCA, and relate those findings to wildland fire, management and societal implications.
