This review summarizes information that was available in the scientific literature as of 2020 on the
biology, ecology, and effects of fire on diffuse knapweed in North America. Diffuse knapweed is not native in North America and is invasive in shortgrass and mixedgrass prairie, steppe, shrub-steppe, and dry, open forests and woodlands in the western United States and southern British Columbia. It is especially invasive after disturbance, so limiting disturbance is key to preventing diffuse knapweed invasion.
