Decisionmaking & Sensemaking
Endsley examines the interrelation between situation awareness and individual and environmental factors. Endsley argues that situation awareness is more than a person just being aware of the situation. Rather, it is a complex understanding of the situation, and requires the ability to project what the future might bring. Further, situation awareness “presents a level of focus that goes beyond traditional information-processing approaches in attempting to explain human behavior”. A model of situation awareness is provided to show how various factors affect the dynamic decision making process. The author then goes on to give more technical and expanded descriptions of the factors and their interrelations with decision making and situation awareness.
