What initiatives are currently underway to support the well-being of wildland firefighters?  How can we incorporate these initiatives into our practices? 

Join members of the BC Wildfire Service and Canada Wildfire to discuss well-being efforts and initiatives at their organizations, including: 

Applying research and innovation to firefighter health and wellness, with Natasha Broznitsky (Research & Innovation Senior Officer, BCWS). 

Hazard exposure and uptake of respiratory protection on the fireline, with Drew Lichty (Occupational Hygienist, Canada Wildfire). 

Sleep, shift length, stress, and brain function in wildland firefighters, with Jesse Wallace-Webb (Research Analyst, BCWS). 

Injury categories and severity in wildland firefighting, with Jeremy Angus (Senior Wildfire Officer, BCWS; PhD Candidate, University of Victoria). 

The Resilient Minds and the Critical Incident Stress Management Program, with Erik Hanson (Instructor, BCWS; Lead Trainer, “Resilient Minds”, CMHA). 

Mental health at an organizational level, such as working toward the National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace, with Jessa Barber (Research Technician, BCWS). 

Understanding higher risk for negative mental health outcomes for wildland firefighters, with Alex Lane (MSc Candidate, University of Northern BC).
