My name is Jessica Shuey, most people just call me 'Shuey'. When I was younger my family was evacuated from our home in Pinetop, Arizona. The Rodeo Chediski Fire was threatening my town's safety. I thanked many Firefighters during that time, having no idea someday I would become a Firefighter. My early career path was as a USFS Wildland Firefighter. I worked in Flagstaff, Arizona and then several years in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho on the Panhandle. Two years ago plans changed when my husband's career moved us overseas and I started painting. To this day I think about fire daily. I have a passion for fire and this community. I have close friends still pursuing their careers in fire and I know how hard each person works and all that they sacrifice. I want to share their images and their experiences through my artwork. I want my artwork to bring back memories for Firefighters and evoke conversations with strangers. Fire is ever changing. Many men and women see fire as being scary. Some only see its intensity and its destructiveness. However, I also see fire as incredibly unique, mesmerizing, and beautiful. This is the way I try to capture it.
